Father Greg Boyle was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 1982, moved to Boyle Heights in 1986 to become the pastor of Dolores Mission, and in 1988 he founded what would eventually become Homeboy Industries. Homeboy Industries provides at risk youth and former gang members with job experience, positive communities, and a second chance. Father Boyle draws on his 20+ years of stories and experiences in Tattoos on the Heart, telling the stories of LA's gangs with unmatched love and compassion.
“Kinship– not serving the other, but being one with the other. Jesus was not 'a man for others'; he was one with them. There is a world of difference in that.”
